Planks

On Tuesday, our school and another school met up with each other. The other school was smaller, and we all got split up into 14 even groups, and my group had 7 people from my school and 3 from the other. We did all sorts of activity’s throughout the day but the one that I thought was the best was the Planks. Planks is where you have to lie down, with your tummy to the floor, and only touch the ground with the tip of your foot, and your arm from the end to the elbow. The rules were you had to have six players doing it at the time, while four players rest and get their breath. As soon as the teacher yelled “scorpion!” At least one person had to swap. Over all, i really enjoyed this experience with another school.

Christmas

Christmas

My family celebrates Christmas. On Christmas Day for dinner we have duck pie (in our house only) because we want to have the best day of the year. We obviously love duck and pie and duck pie. We also have home made caramel ice cream. On Christmas Eve dinner we have bolognese pasta. My mum makes the best bolognese in the world. On Christmas morning my sister and I find a long stuffed sock on the end of the bed. We both open ours. I find what I wanted. Brilliant! All day we have fun trying out all our presents. I like my presents because they have exactly what i wanted. Thank you Santa!

Book chat books

At my school, we have book chat. Book chat is where the teacher gives you a book and you have to read it over a period of time. After that period of time, we share our thoughts on the/our books. This week we were asked about our favourite book chat book this year. My favourite book chat book was Ice wolves. Ice wolves is an action packed book that was published last year. I rate it 5 stars, and recommend to read it before you finish Jr. school.

Animal adaptations!

Awoooooooooo! A wolf came from behind a tree. A rabbit stands up and its ears stand on end. The wolf starts chasing the rabbit. The rabbit is not nowhere near as fast as the wolf. It looks like the wolf is going to get the rabbit until…                                                                 All of a sudden the rabbit changes direction and the wolf cannot catch it. This is how a rabbit escapes predators.

Some rabbits have massive or close together hair to keep them warm. You will mainly find these rabbits in the nether regions (Australia, Greenland, Russia ect.). A rabbit and a hare are very alike. The way to tell the difference is that a rabbit is usually smaller than a hare. A rabbit only eats plants. Most people know them because they mainly eat carrots and lettuce. You will only find rabbits in a close to quiet environment like swamps and deserts. Hares like the same environment except busier. They can jump up to three metres. The shortest and smallest rabbit/hare is the Pygmy Rabbit. They are 28 centimetres and 1/2 a kilogram. A rabbit has many ways of escaping predators and are also great pets.

This is the book where I got my info.

The play

“O no ze queen is dead!” Yes the queen is dead. The year five production was Hanging onto the Bottom of the World. We had heaps of fun. I was a cricket player, convict and a bridesmaid.

While a cricket player, I was a wicket keeper and I got lots of wickets. My only line was then; “Many Australians were born here, NOT in Britain.”

While a convict, I had to look like I had a twisted knee and walk really weird. During that scene, the governors came into each state (WA, SA, QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS) to make Australia.

While a bridesmaid, I had to look like my bride was the best person in the world! I had to do a bride walk (step, together, step, together) and my bridesmaid WAS the best!

When I was backstage, I had to tell people where to go, what to get, and why. It was very streesful especially when I had to change costumes! My 2 props that I needed was a bunch of fake flowers (for when I was a bridesmaid), and wicket keeper gloves (for the cricket scene).

I was the front of the ship that “got us to Australia.” Governor Philip was not happy with us convicts because we were mucking up their states, just before that, the sweepers said, “stop mucking up our stage!” And the other one said, “yeah! We took so much care in doing it!”

Over all this was a big highlight of the year, coming second after my toonallook camp. I am in year six next year and we will be going back to toona, but, unfortunately, we will not be doing a year six production.

Toonallook

Toonalook is Far East of Melbourne. My class went to it for camp on a 4 hour bus trip. 1 and a half hours gone and we stop for morning tea in Yarragon. Morning tea is a packet of tomatoes from home. Back on the bus for a 2 1/2 hour trip to Duck Arm. Toona is a short walk from here. Why are the girls Cabins so much closer than ours? Unfair. First thing we do is go Kayaking. So fun! My team (Lara and I) won! We have free time and play Kingball (bigger version of four square). Dinner is burritos but I’m gluten free so I get ok tacos. After dinner we play the shoe game (hit a drink bottle over a shoe). My Cabin is nice and cosy. I have Will, Alex, and Max D in here.

Tuesday morning we wake with a start. “Get up, Get up!” one of the teachers say, “7 o’clock!” We pack our sleeping bags and rush towards where we play kingball for half an hour then we have breakfast. Morning activity is bicycle riding, then we go on a walk to get to our campsite and set up tents. It’s very hard, as nearly none of us have been camping before. When we finish it’s dinner, beef sandwiches. Then we play a game called emperors, where everyone has a character in which they play as. If you guess their character, they become part of your emperor. Bed time!

Wednesday morning we get up peacefully. Although, we have the toughest day of the camp today. We travel on a bus to the sea, and get a tiny ferry to Raymond island. As soon as we get there, we see koalas. We go for a bike ride, and along the way, there may as well be a million. We catch the ferry again, and start fishing. No one catches one, as we only had 20 minutes. Then we get on a speedboat for Toona. Wind whipping in my face, I can hardly breathe on the boat. When we get back the other group is already there and give us a surprise. Kingball gets no fun after I sprain my thumb trying to get it back on to someone else’s circle. One more sleep and I’m home!

I wake up very early and hear all the other boys talking. I get out of bed and tell them to stop talking, but they don’t listen to me. When we actually get told to wake up, it’s breakfast! All the boys get told off for being up to early and (I grunt) the girls get to eat first. I’M SO HUNGRY! Packing, Kingball, and getting on the bus is fun, but NOTHING compared with getting home!

My sovereign hill reflection

This term my class went to sovereign hill. When we arrived back we had learned so much that we could remake the buildings that we saw. We’ve Made an old fashioned day map and programmed a robot (Sphero) to walk along the road that we made (we also made a road and a river). There were businesses like saddlerys, hotels, bakerys, and many more. One hotel called the Eureka Hotel was burnt down by some miners because of the James Scobie murder outside the hotel. James Bentley (the owner of Eureka Hotel) murdered James Scobie outside the hotel (or so it is believed). The government didn’t believe it happened for some reason so he didn’t get hung. So the miners burnt the hotel down. And then they ran for it and then that led to the Eureka Stockade.

Avatar

Hi I’m Isaac and I made an avatar today. It’s got lots of things like me that it’s almost identical! I tried to make myself skinnier by putting black clothing on myself: did you know that putting black things on yourself makes you look skinnier?

Information Books

This term my class worked on one particular question.

What makes a good information book?

A good information book has lots of little details, like scales on a fish, or a movement on a screen. It includes pictures, where and when it was taken, and what the picture is of. Good information books have examples, and figurative language, like similes, metaphors, and oxymorons.

My favourite non-fiction book is Sorry day because it made me feel emotional about aboriginal people.

What’s your favourite non-fiction book?
